My Smart Home & Homelab
A house that takes care of itself, my favourite hobby project
My house is my playground. Lights, cameras, the gate and the speakers talk to each other, a small home server runs my own apps (including this website), and a few AI assistants keep an eye on everything and message me when something needs attention. All built by me, one weekend at a time.
What my house does
Lights turn on when you walk into a room, only if it’s actually dark
One button for a pool party: garden lights on and music on the speakers
A camera checks whether the gate was left open at night and tells me
Smoke or CO detected? Every light in the house turns on
Every morning at 9, a summary of the house arrives on Telegram
AI assistants run checks, fix small things and send me reports
Why I do it
Because I’m curious and I like things that just work. It’s also how I look after a house on another continent: from Barcelona I can check the cameras, open the gate or get a heads-up if something is wrong.
How it works, simply
Sensors around the house tell a small brain (Home Assistant and Homey) what is happening: someone walked in, it got dark, a door opened. The brain decides what to do. Next to it, small home servers act as my personal cloud, and AI assistants check every day that everything is healthy.
